Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Swachh Survey 2021 was implemented all over the country. Under this Swachh Survey, Safai Mitra Suraksha Challenge and Award for Garbage Free Cities were awarded at Swachh Amrit Mahotsav on Saturday, 20 November 2021 from the hands of Union Minister for Urban Development and Housing Hardeep Singh Puri in the presence of His Excellency President Ramnath Kovind Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Bhupesh Baghel, Chief Minister of Sikkim Premsingh Tamang, Deputy Governor of Andaman and Nicobar State and Union Secretary Durga Prasad Mishra at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
The Panvel Municipal Corporation was awarded first rank in the country a special award by the Central Government for its citizens outstanding participation in the various activities with respect to Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Panvel Municipal Corporation was also honoured by the Central Government for receiving 3 Star rating in the category of waste free city.
A total of 4320 cities participated in the Clean Survey 2021, out of which only 143 cities across the country have received 3 star rating. This is why this award has special significance. As it has been Participating enthusiastically in Swachh Survey 2021, various innovative concepts were implemented in Panvel Municipal Corporation area like Attractive color paintings that convey the message of cleanliness and conservation of the environment, use of Google Maps to find toilets in the city, bicycle rallies, waste recycling and upcycling etc..
On behalf of Panvel Municipal Corporation, the award was accepted by Mayor Dr. Kavita Chautmol, Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh, Deputy Mayor Jagdish Gaikwad, Leader of the House Paresh Thakur, Leader of Opposition Pritam Mhatre, Women and Child Welfare Speaker Monica Mahanwar, Deputy Commissioner Sachin Pawar, Ganesh Shete, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Vaibhav Vidhate, corporator Ganesh Kadu and others at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi.
Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh, informed, “Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Panvel Municipal Corporation is ranked 27th among cities with a population of 1 to 10 lakh and 6th in the state. The Panvel Municipal Corporation has received the honor of cleanliness due to the work done by the people’s representatives, officers, staff and friends of cleanliness and the positive response received from the citizens”
“Similarly, next year, Panvel Municipal Corporation will be in one of the top ten cleanest cities in the country by participating with more enthusiasm. To get a 5 Star rating for Panvel city we will increase participation of people’s representatives, citizens and administration” expressed Commissioner Ganesh Deshmukh.
He further added that the official taking care of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan in Panvel Municipal Corporation has played a vital role for conducting various activities in the city.
