The Government of Maharashtra, Public Health Department, ADHS – Mumbai Division organised WORLD MALARIA DAY on 25TH APRIL 2022 under the able guidance of Dr. Balasaheb Sonawane, Assistant Director of Health Services (Malaria) Mumbai Division along with NGO Heart Foundation and Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai at the Vishnudas Bhave Auditorium Vashi Navi Mumbai. The Chief Guest for the program were Dr. Swapnil Lale, Joint Director, NVBDCP, Government of Maharashtra and the Guests of Honor were Dr. Mrs. Gauri Rathod, Deputy Director, Mumbai Division, Dr. Jayakar Ellis, President, Heart Foundation, Dr. Kiran Shingote, Unit Head Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, Dr. Ravikumar and Dr. Bhalchandra Pedhambkar, Owens Crowning.

Before the commencement of the program, a two minute silence was observed for the health workers who sacrificed their life during the Covid 19 pandemic.

In his welcome speech, Dr. Balasaheb Sonawane briefly explained the work done in the past five years with regards to Malaria and Vector Borne diseases, the future planning to curb the diseases and also the latest situation of malaria in Mumbai division. In his presentation Dr. Sonawane thanked the various NGOs contribution and their help for this programme of malaria awareness.

Mementos were awarded to the NGOs and other donor agencies for their contribution towards the work of combating Malaria in the ADHS Mumbai division.

IEC materials like Young India Radio, an internet Radio and Back light display boards by Heart Foundation and a booklet Zero Malaria Starts With Me on combating Malaria by Heart Foundation and Apollo Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, binocular microscope, monocular microscope, test-tubes and test tube boxes and other items were inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Swapnil Lale. A Malaria jingle was also launched by Heart Foundation which was sung by Suraj Singh.

Dr Gauri Rathod, in her speech, appreciated the efforts put by all the health worker during the Covid 19 pandemic times and requested them to continue to provide good health services and expect same in future for elimination of malaria.

Certificates of Appreciation were given to all the 450 odd workers from Thane, Raigad and Palghar districts for their untiring support during the Covid Pandemic

Mr Santosh Marathe , Regional CEO Western Region Apollo Hospitals said : “On the eve of World Malaria Day, AHNM along with ADHS Mumbai & Heart Foundation have initiated an awareness campaign to prevent the spread of the Malaria in the past. AHNM has always been on the forefront to partner with the Public Health Authorities on issues of public health and hope to do so in the future too”.

Talking on the occasion, Dr. Jayakar Ellis, President, Heart Foundation said “It has always been the desire of Heart Foundation to work towards the upliftment of society and today I am overwhelmed to be a part of history being created when all the staff workers of ADHS – Mumbai division were awarded certificates for their untiring work during the Covid Pandemic.”

Dr Swapnil Lale, the Honourable chief guest in his speech explained the theme of the slogan “Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives”. He instructed all the health workers how to eliminate malaria, focus on the reduction in transmission and reduce the death rate. He also told that in future digital microscope will be provided for better performance. Our aim is to eliminate malaria upto 2030. He also appreciated the donation of NGO for this programme.

The program was convened by Dr. Mrs. Tarulata Dhanke, MO-Thane. Other officers present were Dr. Renge, ADHS – L, Dr. Mrs Kiran Sonawane, SMO, Dr. Bhosale, DMO, Dr. Nagre, DMO, Dr. Sankpal, MS-Panvel and Smt Deepali Nasare – Filaria Officer.

In his vote of thanks, Dr. Dhumal thanked Dr. Sonawane, all the staff and all those who participated and helped in this programme and the programme ended with National Anthem and lunch.
