ACB registers FIR against HDIL Developers & MHADA Officials

Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) registers FIR against HDIL Developers & MHADA Officials for engaging into corrupt practices while illegally re-developing Bharat Nagar at BKC.

On the order of the Hon’ble Session Court, Mumbai the Anti Corruption Bureau has registered a FIR on date 2/5/2011 against the Directors of HDIL including Shri Rakesh Wadhwan and MHADA Officials including Shri Subhash Sonawane, Chief Officer MHADA under section 166, 167, 409, 420 of the Indian Penal Code (Criminal Breach of Trust, Cheating).

The matter pertains of the Re-development of Bharat Nagar Colony at BKC where HDIL Developers in conveyance of MHADA officials fraudulently declared the MHADA Transit Camp as a slum so that they could lay claim over FSI and earn money fraudulently. The project had a sanctioned BUA of 1 lakh 11 thousand sq.mts. The residents had approached the ACB on date 17.3.2011 to register FIR under provisions of Indian Penal Code & Prevention of Corruption Act but the ACB did not took any action on it and thus the residents had to approach the Sessions Court.

The Bharat Nagar re-development is not the only case where such a fraud is being engaged into but today almost all the slum re-development schemes are today marked with one scam or the other. It is important that the State government takes firm action against the developers and reviews the SRA. Instead pro-people schemes like Rajiv Awas Yojana should be implemented is the demand of the slum dwellers.
