Suicide and attempt to suicide of Police continues in Mumbai

Mumbai: Mumbai top Police Officer Himanshu Roy committed suicide today at his residing house with his service revolver. The 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) Officer headed the Anti-Terror Squad of Maharashtra.

He led investigations into several big cases including the 2013 Indian Premier League spot-fixing case. Under his leadership in ATS Ajmal Kasab was sentenced to life imprisonment. Areeb Majeed, the Kalyan youth who went to join the IS, was also deported to India.

He was suffering from bone cancer and had been on sick leave since November 23, 2016.

This is not the first Mumbai policeman or officer to do suicide or attempted to do suicide. The reasons are mostly stress of overload work pressure, seniors harassment, sickness etc. These are few of the past incidents…

24 March 2018 Saturday night, Kishor Dalwi (55) Police Constable, Mumbai Police Motor Transport department: Suicide by Jumping from his Building. Reason: Dalwi was on sick leave since July last year as he was under treatment at the J J hospital for depression.

29 January 2018: Baburao Bobde (65), Former Police Inspector. Murdered his wife Rekha (62) by firing bullets from his revolver and after ensuring her death, he committed suicide by shooting himself. Reason: Not known

28 November 2017: Tuesday : Manju Gaikwad (22) Women Police constable of the State Reserve Police Force committed suicide by hanging himself.  She was under Stress.

6 September 2017: Subhadra Pawar 24-year-old woman constable. She has allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house Reason: Love with Police Constable and harassing and mentally torturing by the latter and ACP of Thane Police Commissionerate

21 December 2016: Wednesday : Srinivas Kumbhare (43) Police Constable, He went to the terrace and jumped off, committing suicide. Reason : He was suffering from Tuberculosis since two years

15 September 2016: Police Constable in Thane tried to kill himself but got saved.

15 September 2013 Saturday night: Ranjit Kumar Sahay, Additional Director General (Housing): Attempt to Suicide, 55% Burned Reason: harassment at workplace and leveled serious allegations against his immediate superior, DG (Housing) Praveen Dixit

10 April 2012: Mangal Javel, Police Inspector killed himself with his own revolver. He was incharge of a security of a political leader. He used to stay under overload work pressure
