Residents of Sector 6, 7 and 8 in Vashi have for long been demanding shared auto service to Vashi bus depot and railway station, but in vain. Now the two routes have been included in the list forwarded by RTO to Regional Transport Authority. Hopefully, it will get approval at the earliest.
Social worker Krishna Pandit informs, “Every day thousands of residents, including school children and senior citizens, travel on these routes. They have the option of either taking a bus or going by auto rickshaw. Since the wait for buses stretches long, taking costly auto rickshaws is the most practical solution for them. In such a scenario having a shared auto facility will benefit them the most”.
“Residents have therefore met Assistant Regional Transport Officer Krishnadeo Jadhav and handed him a letter demanding implementation of shared auto system,” he adds.
Jadhav explains, “Presently in Vashi and Koper Khairane the share auto system is being implemented on eight routes. However we have forwarded the demand to Regional Transport Authority for sanctioning 23 more routes. These also include routes from Sector -6 Vashi to bus depot and railway station. We are expecting RTA nod at the earliest”.
