Belapur: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Standing Committee today witnessed a backfire on Officers by the Members with respect to the dilapidated condition of the Parks in the city. The City Engineer has expressed that as a solution to the fact, under the leadership of Municipal Commissioner a Presentation is being developed for the overall beautification of all the parks of the city.
During the proposal of the development of ‘Theme Park’ at the existing park at Plot number 41, Sector 48, Nerul the Standing Committee Members took up the issue of the dilapidated condition of the parks in their wards.
The very first member who picked up the issue was Corporator Sunil Balaram Patil of Sector 23, Darave Village. He pointed “The Jagadguru Shankaracharya Garden based in sector 21 Nerul has been ignored from last more than Ten years and development work of just rupees Six lakh has been spent by NMMC till date. The garden is presently taken care by Brahma Kumaris Organisation and used by hundreds of local residents for jogging, walking, meditating etc. But neither the said organisation nor NMMC”
The City Engineer Surendra Patil stated, “The said park is yet to be transferred from CIDCO to NMMC. Once done we will be in the position to do the development work.”
It was to the shock when the Patil brought to the notice to the Committee that the said Garden was handover from CIDCO to NMMC around 15 years ago.
Adding to the woes the Leader of the House and Standing Committee Member Corporator Ravindra Ithape pointed out the need of the developing compound wall at RR Patil Garden of sector 19, Nerul.
Corporator Saroj Rohidas Patil expressed, “In Parsik Hill there are Two gardens that have been transferred from CIDCO top NMMC, but to the dismay is the fact that the Officials have not taken any step towards its development. If we do not take any step than we might have to face new encroachments”
Responding to the members CE Patil expressed, “Under the leadership of Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Annasaheb Misal (IAS), we are planning for an overall development of each and every Parks of the city. And with respect to it we are designing a presentation for the same and shall be presented in front of the members at the earliest.”
After the discussion the resolution for the development work of the Theme Park at Plot number 41 of Sector 48, Nerul was passed by the Committee under the Chairmanship of Navi Gavte in presence of Municipal Commissioner Annasaheb Misal, Seceratary Chitra Baviskar and other Committee Members. The said work will be done by the Ms A P Construction at a cost of Rupees 1,94,06,668 (Rupees One Crore Ninety Four Lakhs Six Thousand Six Hundred and Sixty Eight). The time period for the same is Nine months.
Justine Thomas a local resident of sector 48 Nerul stated, “It’s a good decision the corporation has taken up. The residents of our area have been demanding for the development of the same garden for last many time. This ‘Theme Park’ development will ensure a real benefit for children, women and senior citizens”.
