Residents have been facing a lot of troubles due to improper parking near Nerul Railway Station for a long time. This area is always very busy and experiences heavy traffic. There are many residential complexes in the area as well. This station is maintained by City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO). Despite a parking lot in the area, residents park vehicles in no-parking zone creating a lot of traffic chaos.
Riyaz Shaikh, a resident of Sector 27, Nerul said, “We face a lot of problems in this area. This road is always full of vehicles which are parked illegally. When a parking lot has been allotted in the area, then why do people park cars on roads? Due to this problem, there is always chaos on this road. Auto-rickshaws also trouble a lot and have developed a rickshaw stand in no parking area. The traffic police, CIDCO and NMMC are doing nothing to solve this problem.”An employee at ‘Pay and Park’ parking lot on condition of anonymity said, “The residents especially villagers or youngsters park their vehicle in no parking zone. When we ask them to park vehicles in parking lot, they abuse us. So now, we have stopped asking them.”
Shaikh added, “Many two-wheelers are towed away from here. But police officials never touch some cars of influential people which can be seen parked here all day long. It’s very bad that partiality is done openly by traffic officials. Authorities should do something to solve this problem as this is a very important area.”
Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Bhaskar Wankhede said, “I am aware of this parking menace at Nerul Railway Station. This is why we have planned to develop a multi-level parking lot in the area. This will be developed under public private partnership scheme and will accommodate around 350 vehicles. We have included this in our Budget. This parking lot will come up in this year only and benefit everyone.”
