Metro route may go up to Navi Mumbai Intl. airport

Navi Mumbai city is one of the rapidly growing cities and is also said to be one of the most important cities with many giant corporates focussing on it. It has Asia’s biggest industrial belt of MIDC in TTC area and a port like JNPT which gives ample economical and employment opportunities.
CIDCO brings in a new proposed route of Metro rail and also plans to extend it up to Navi Mumbai International Airport. It states that all big projects need proper infrastructure and hence the requirement for Metro service.
The proposed route shall be from Belapur-Kharghar-Taloje to the proposed airport”.
MIDC-Kalamboli-Khandeshar railway route will be extended to the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport. In the first phase, construction shall be from Belapur to Taloje. The total length of this line shall be 10.79 km and will have 10 railway stations viz. Belapur, Sector-7 Belapur, Science Park, Utsav Chowk, Sector-14, Central Park, Pethapada, Sector-34, Panchnand and Pendhar.
Phase-II shall be from Khandeshwar to Taloje MIDC. The total length of the line shall be 8.15 km and will have seven railway stations viz. Khandeshwar, Sector-10 Kamothe, Sector-2E Kalamboli, Sector-7E Kalamboli, Sector-10E Kalamboli, Kasadi and two railway stations in MIDC area.
Under Phase-III, two corridors shall be joined together between Pendhar and MIDC by a link of 2.2 km. This link shall form a loop from Belapur to Khandeshwar.
B B Mehta, Additional Chief Engineer, railway Project, CIDCO informs, “The date for submitting suggestions and objections on the present notification is expected to increase. In the meantime the process of calling for the memorandum of interest will be opened and if things fall in place, tenders will be floated and opened by the end of monsoon. And in the next four years the work of Metro railway will be completed from Belapur to Khandeshwar. And if we get permission, extension of the rail to the proposed airport will also be considered.”
