Taking note of MLA Prashant Thakur’s demand, Union Road Development Minister Nitin Gadkari had convened a meeting on Tuesday with a view to expanding the Kalamboli circle. Minister Gadkari has advised CIDCO and other agencies to appoint an international level consultant for the development of Kalamboli Circle.

The highway from Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan-Dombivali to Panvel Uran JNPT is heavily trafficked. The heavy container, passenger transport from Panvel-Uran to Mumbai-Thane to JNPT runs round the clock from Kalamboli MGM Circle, making Kalamboli Circle a busiest and important junction.

The problem of traffic jams always plagues the Kalamboli MGM junction area and sometimes there is a ‘traffic jam’ for hours, which wastes a lot of fuel and time. Therefore, MLA Prashant Thakur had requested Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to release Panvelkar from the traffic jam. Accordingly on 07 September 2021 a meeting was held in Delhi with Union Road Development Minister Nitin Gadkari of MLA Prashant Thakur in presence of CIDCO and other department Officers.

Due to JNPT International Port, heavy traffic in Uran, Panvel area has become a headache. The biggest impact of this has been on the Kalamboli circle where different roads come together. Huge traffic coming from and going towards Mumbai, Pune, Panvel, Alibag, Goa, Thane and Mumbra had to cross Kalamboli Circle leading pathetic condition for local motorists, who have to  have to face the huge traffic jams every day.

With the launch of flights from Navi Mumbai International Airport, Mumbai’s air traffic will be reduced, but the road congestion in Navi Mumbai will increase, accordingly there is a need to do expansion of Kalamboli traffic circle. in response to a demand made by MLA Prashant Thakur a meeting was convened in Delhi on Tuesday by Minister Nitin Gadkari in presence of Uran Assembly constituency MLA Mahesh Baladi, senior officials of CIDCO, JNPT and NHAI.

It was shared that up to package 4 of this work has been completed and package 5 proposes to build a rotary circular island at Kalamboli circle and at the ‘exit’ on the left side of the airport. Minister Gadkari advised that there is a need to plan in such a manner that there is no need of any changes in the next 20 years and for the same there is a need for collaboration of the existing consultant with an international level consultant.

Minister Nitin Gadkari also suggested that while developing the island at Kalamboli there would be a requirement of more space and accordingly CIDCO should reserve the land for the purpose. He further expressed that after the development of the island the Panvelkar will get relief of traffic congestion.
