Mumbai : After Narayan Rane its the Sharad Pawar who will have to fight for his Identity in Cricket Board.
Controlling the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) since last Twelve years with no opposition, Pawar will now have to show his Power against the Cricket Promoter and an old time friends son Vijay Patil, who has now challenged him for presidentship of the Mumbai Cricket Association. The proposed election is organised on 17 June 2015.
Sharad Pawar and Dnyandeo Patil the father of Vijay Patil had their high time Political careers under Indian National Congress between 1960 to 1980.
However later Pawar developed his own Party Congress and then rejoined INC and later again left for his own new party NCP. While the Dnayandeo Patil stood along with INC till date.
Vijay Patils father have been loyal to Congress for many decades and received high end positions too. However the son has decided to wear another pair of shoes. He has decided to be with the old time enemies ie. Shiv Sena, the States ruling party and the supporters of the ruling party of the Center. The Shiv Sena Supremo Udhav Thackrey has extended his support to Patil to bring an end to the monopoly of the Pawar.
Vijay Patil had been elected as the Vice-President of the Association in the Biennial Election held on 18th October 2013. He was first elected as the Vice-President of the Association in July 2011.
While he is challenging the most powerful man Sharad Pawar who had been elected unopposed as the President of Mumbai Cricket Association in the Biennial Election held on 18th October 2013. He was elected as the President of Mumbai Cricket Association for the first time in 2001 and served the Association till the year 2011.
MCA had become a full fledged Political battle ground since 2013 when the Late Senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde had filed the nomination against Sharad Pawar in the year Biennial Election held on 18th October 2013, however his nomination was disqualified on the grounds that his address on his electoral registration was of Beed. Leading the way to Pawar to win the battle unopposed.
However this time its the Cricket Promoter Vijay Patil who has stood against the Pawar.
Patil is contesting from Cricket First group and the ruling Pawar from Bal Mahadalkar team. Two years ago, Cricket First was able to win only four of the 17 seats in the MCA management committee. However with the support of Shiv Sena he is confident to win the presidentship of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
There more political leaders and former cricket man who will be in the fray to contest for five posts of Vice President. Shiv Senas Lok Sabha MP Rahul Shewale and Thane MLA Pratap Sarnaik, Sena bigwigs Lok Sabha MP Rahul Shewale and Thane MLA Pratap Sarnaik, former cricketers Lalchand Rajput, Abey Kuruvila and Dilip Vengsarkar.
